Screen Captures Of Work In Progress

These are the different states I have so far made on Photoshop, I have used various vector brushes to add more detail to the piece. All of the words and items will appear separately following the rhythm of the song i'm using, there will also be 3D bullets going across the scene in front of behind the text ( I haven't decided yet).

Font Samples

Before producing final roughs of the slides I want to use I decided it was a good idea to produce font roughs to figure out what kind of fonts went with the lyrics and overall message of my piece. The yellow scribbled fonts I liked but found inappropriate for the overall look of my piece and the red circled are the ones I will be using in my final composition. I decided to stick to just using four fonts as it gave me just enough to experiment with but not too many that it would detract from the rest of the visual elements.

Very Inspired Today

I finally managed to come up with an idea for my Digital Compositing module, after watching many lyric videos, which are very popular music videos now for a lot of bands, I came up with an idea whilst listening to a track called Antagonistic Nations by Mask Of Virtue. This track has an interesting sound and starting lyrics which define war and it really inspired me, below is my rough storyboard of what i want the overall composition to look like.

The Nature of Battle

I found this animation while browsing on YouTube for inspiration, I really liked the way the bombs were used as seeds to plant new life in a desecrated landscape instead of dropping bombs. I really liked the style of the overall animation and the colours it's a very graphic based animation.

Silent Hill : Revelation 3D

Silent Hill : Revelation 3D is the second film based around the game franchise and I was astounded by the visuals when I went to see it. The 3D was fantastic and came right out of the screen in front of you. An example would be when the ash is floating down at the start it feels like it is right in front of you, also when the scraper at the start murders Heather's father in her dream the sword comes right out of the screen also blood splatters on your glasses throughout the film. I also thought the digital grading was very appropriate and gave the film a grungy feeling throughout especially when they return to Silent Hill where the main colour pallet is blood red, black, white and very de-saturated browns and greens. One of my favourite scenes is the one in the clip below, I don't think I blinked during the whole sequence it was that amazing. I thought the way they decayed the walls like skin being ripped off flesh then that decaying off to reveal a cage was a very clever technique and very visually appealing.

The Backwater Gospel

This was a short animation I found on YouTube and I just fell in love with the style and grungy effects within the animation. This however is a 2D animation which also uses a lot of silhouette imagery to enhance other features. I really love the colour pallet in this piece its very dark and desaturated.

The Tale Of The Three Brothers (Harry Potter)

© Warner Bros & J.K.Rowling

When I watched this scene I loved the style they used to create this tale within the main film, it has a very unique look and is visually very creative. I particularly love the silhouetted images with little detail to the faces of the characters which relates to the tale being told as no one really knows who the three brothers were. I would love to do some silhouette imagery in my short piece.
